Easter Dirt Cups

Happy Spring!

Easter Dirt Cups 2

My fabulous neighbor sent me this awesome recipe, brought over all the ingredients and then came over for all my kiddos and her kiddos to make these awesome treats!  What a perfect start of to spring!!!  Especially when it’s still cold here in Iowa and the forecast is calling for snow over the weekend…ugh, enough already!  We are ready for some warm weather!

My neighbor found most of the supplies at the local dollar store and she made the chocolate cake (aka dirt) ahead of time!

Easter Dirt Cups

Here is the recipe:

  • 1 box of chocolate cake mix
  • 4 little containers of chocolate pudding ($1 for 4 at the dollar store)
  • 1 envelope of unflavored gelatin
  • 1 cup of boiling water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 tsps vanilla butter food flavoring
  • transparent tumbler cups

Assorted Candies…don’t forget to include gummy worms!!

Directions: Prepare your unflavored gelatin by adding the boiling water to a container with the gelatin and sugar. The gelatin should dissolve in 5 minutes. Add the vanilla butter flavoring.

Distribute evenly in 4 tumblers. Put a couple of gummy worms inside. Place in the refrigerator to chill and set. We put ours in the freezer to speed up the process a bit!

Once the gelatin mix has set, take some pudding and add it to each tumbler, as much or little as you want, we had the kiddos each share a container of pudding and each put in 1/2. Take a slice of your chocolate cake, crumble it and fill up the tumblers to the top with it!
Next, let the kiddos go wild with the fun candy assortment and let their creativity flow! Finally…time to dig in!  The kids loved the worms in the gelatin at the bottom of the cups and it so cute when all layered in a plastic clear tumbler to see the surprise worms at the bottom of the cup!
